I'm Rob Huddleston (which you probably guessed from the domain name), and welcome to my blog. I find it frustrating when I visit someone's blog and can't find any information about them, so here goes.
My "real" job is as a computer applications instructor, which is the sorta fancy way of saying that I teach people to use computers. I put "real" in quotes because while teaching never seemed too much like a normal job to begin with, it became less so in 2006 when I stopped working full-time and started contracting. So now that I don't do the normal 9-5 thing, or even the normal work 5 days a week thing, it's even less a "real" job. But it pays the bills.
Some folks have asked in the past about for whom I teach exactly. Currently, most of my time is divided between working for Academy X, New Horizons Sacramento, and Innovative Solutions. I have taught the occasional class for Sterling Ledet and SunTech as well.
I teach web and graphics design courses as much as possible. Most of my time recently has been in web programming, teaching ColdFusion, PHP, and ActionScript. I can and do also teach HTML, CSS, XML and XSLT, as well as pretty much anything made by Adobe.
Speaking of Adobe ... working at best part time has freed me up to do some volunteering. As such, I manage my local Adobe User Group, the Sierra Multimedia User Group. I also spend time on online forums answering questions for people - which was the impetus for this site. If you want to find me there, check out either the Adobe Dreamweaver group, the Dreamweaver Newbies group, or HTML Haven, all on Yahoo groups. In 2007, I was named as an Adobe Community Expert for my work in these groups.
It also made time to fulfill a life-long dream. In 2007, I was approached by John Wiley and Sons to write a book. The fruit of that labor is XML: Your visual blueprintâ„¢ for building expert Web sites with XML, CSS, XHTML, and XSLT
, which was published in November, 2007. My second book, HTML, XHTML, and CSS: Your visual blueprintâ„¢ for designing effective web pages
was published in June 2008, and I'm hard at work on book #3.
On the personal side, I live in Northern California with my wife of 13 years, our beautiful daughter Jessica and our awesome son Xander.
