I’m Rob Huddleston (which you probably guessed from the domain name), and welcome to my blog. I find it frustrating when I visit someone’s blog and can’t find any information about them, so here goes.
My “real” job is as a computer applications instructor, which is the sorta fancy way of saying that I teach people to use computers. I put “real” in quotes because while teaching never seemed too much like a normal job to begin with, it became less so in 2006 when I stopped working full-time and started contracting. So now that I don’t do the normal 9-5 thing, or even the normal work 5 days a week thing, it’s even less a “real” job. But it pays the bills.
Some folks have asked in the past about for whom I teach exactly. Currently, most of my time is spent working for Academy X, Webucator, Sterling Ledet and SunTech. On occasion, I also teach for other companies such as New Horizons of Sacramento. I am also an Adjunct Professor in the Interactive Media department at the Art Institute of California’s Sacramento campus.
I teach web and graphics design courses as much as possible. Most of my time recently has been in web programming, teaching ActionScript and Flex. I can and do also teach HTML, CSS, XML and XSLT, ColdFusion and PHP, and pretty much anything made by Adobe.
Speaking of Adobe … working at best part time has freed me up to do some volunteering. As such, I manage my local Adobe User Group, the Sacramento Adobe Users Group. I also spend time on online forums answering questions for people – which was the impetus for this site. If you want to find me there, check out either Dreamweaver Newbies or Adobe Flash Catalyst on Yahoo groups. In 2007, I was named as an Adobe Community Expert for my work in these groups. More recently, I’ve been asked by Adobe to become an “expert moderator” for the new Adobe Community Help feature, so if you run into issues in the products and need help, you’ll most likely see me there trying to provide what assistance I can.
It also made time to fulfill a life-long dream. In 2007, I was approached by John Wiley and Sons to write a book. The fruit of that labor is XML: Your visual blueprintâ„¢ for building expert Web sites with XML, CSS, XHTML, and XSLT
, which was published in November, 2007. I’ve continued to work steadily for them; you can check out my Books page on this site for details on what I’ve written.
On the personal side, I live in Northern California with my wife, our beautiful daughter Jessica and our awesome son Xander.
